Before the gods existed, there was only Ginnungagap — the yawning void. Fire from Muspelheim met ice from Niflheim, and from the melting frost came the giant Ymir and the cosmic cow Audhumla. Odin and his brothers Vili and Ve slay Ymir and fashion the nine worlds from his body.
